About This Blog

I first wrote this blog in 2012 to tell stories from my childhood. However, recently, I have decided to include some helpful articles about spiritual growth and spiritual formation.

My childhood’s memories were developed in a place known as Katong in Singapore. So, I was born in Katong, grew up in Katong and worked in Katong until I left Katong and lived overseas for many years. For almost 40 years, my father was a popular vendor of chicken rice at the corner coffeeshop of Joo Chiat Road and East Coast Road. From this trade, most Singaporeans can tell that we are Hainanese. My first task, at six years old, was to wash dishes at the coffee shop.  At sixteen, my father put his apron around my waist and made me the “firsthand” or “Tao Chiew” to chop chicken.

After my father passed away, I did not take over the chicken rice stall but instead operated in a number of different businesses. At one time, I was the owner of three restaurants. I must say that all my restaurants could not produce the quality Pak Chum Kai (Boiled Chickens) like the ones that his father had laboriously produced all those years. All the ten chefs who worked at my restaurants tried but somehow, their chickens tasted different.

Today. I am a church pastor and have been serving the Lord for more than 30 years. So, if you are a visitor to my blog, I welcome you in the name of the Lord. I trust that you will enjoy some of those interesting stories and helpful articles and do share your comments or words of encouragement.

God bless!
